Waking up to mountain views one day and ocean front camping the next
The trip began with rolling down the coast where Brodie had to pick I (Heidi) up from work on the way with our friends from Off the Lisch. A few hours later we took a turn onto a dirt road to get to our first camp - Yadboro Flats. This spot is great overnighter to break up the trip or stay for a couple of days and enjoy the tranquillity of Yadboro Flats. Yadboro Flats is a free camp that is located along the banks of the Clyde River and within the Yadboro State Forest NSW/ACT. This camp is around 3.5 hours from Sydney and approximately 1 hour from Ulladulla with some winding and dirt roads.
Wake up to the sounds of nature and stunning views of the mountains from your camp as you begin your day exploring the surroundings or pack up camp to head on your next adventure. We spent 1 night here, we rolled in late, cooked up a quick bite to eat and had campfire with Off the Lisch and that was a wrap up for the first day of the trip. As we woke to the sound of wildlife and open the van door to see a cracker sunrise over the mountains with a hot cuppa, taking a moment to soak it up before it was time to pack up and head back on the road to our next adventure.
As we keep on rolling into our next adventure, we stopped for a bite to eat a Mogo and in true TOW style of course we had to check out the local bakery!! Mogo is a small heritage town that has an old-time atmosphere located halfway between Batemans Bay and Moruya on the highway. Grab a bite to eat from some local cafes, check out some hidden gems nearby, stroll around some retail stores or head to the Mogo Zoo. The bonus of rolling down the Coast of NSW is Mogo is not the only small town you can stop to explore until you reach your camp, this trip has plenty of opportunities to stop and explore whatever small town catches your eye. For Off the Lisch and TOW we were eager to get to our next camp to set up for an afternoon of exploring and wrapping up another day with watching the sunset by the beach.
Bermagui is located on the Sapphire Coast of NSW - 2.5 hours from Yadboro Flats and around 5 hours from Sydney. We stayed at Reflections Holiday Park - Bermagui which was $49 per night for a powered site or $35 per night per for a unpowered with some sites with ocean views of Horseshoe Bay and plenty to explore nearby. This park is the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation all in one, offering powered/unpowered sites, cabins, a dog friendly environment, communal camp kitchen, laundry, playground, skate park, and much more! Our setup was complete, and it was time to grab a cold drink to head down to Horseshoe Bay to soak up the afternoon sun. Bermagui offers a wide range of things to explore and do – go for swim in one of the pristine beaches or in the Bermagui blue pool, plenty of fishing spots, paddle boarding, coastal/bush walks, watch the local seals have a play, check out the local stores/cafes, buy some local seafood or simply just relax by the van to take it all in.
If you love rockpools you are sure to love exploring Bermagui Blue pools, which is about a 10-minute walk from caravan park with ocean views on the way. Take yourself for a dip or snorkel your way around to explore what marine life you’re swimming with and if you’re lucky enough when walking back from this gem of a rockpool you may even see seals having a play nearby! Bermagui is known for is it’s deep-sea fishing and discover the beautiful Bermagui harbour where you can have a chat to the local fishermen and grab some fresh seafood. We sampled some oysters and yes, we can confirm after a day exploring, they went down very well!
After exploring Bermagui for a couple of days, it was another new day and time for another new adventure, we packed the cars and took a 20-minute drive into the small town of Tilba. Tilba is nestle between the rolling hills of Mount Gulaga and is a beautiful tiny village to take a stroll around where you will find local shops, a small-town vibe and be sure to stop at Tilba Diary to grab some local cheeses for your next platter. We headed to the Tilba Valley Winery and Ale house to take in the views of the Corunna Lake with rolling countryside behind it while enjoying a local drop. Tilba Valley Winery and Ale house is also dog friendly, has a lunch menu available and depending which day you check it out, they have live music amongst the vineyards too. It was then time to head back to camp to let the good times roll.
